Over 600,000 Trademark Applications for Registration

In the past 11 months of this year, Chinese Trademark Office (CTO) has examined 6,210,000
trademark applications for registration, increased by 74.71% compared to the same period of last
year; concluded 9,961 trademark oppositions, increased by 27.2% compared to the same period of
last year.
From 2002 to 2007, annual trademark applications for registration of China have been the No. 1 in
the world for 6 consecutive years. By the end of November 2008, the total number of trademark
applications for registration has reached 631,470,000 and the number of registered trademarks has
reached 341,190,000.
Under the prerequisite of guaranteeing quality, the CTO will try to examine 700,000 trademark
applications by the end of 2008, 1,300,000 trademark applications by the end of 2009, and
1,400,000 trademark applications by the end of 2010. Meanwhile, the examination cycle of
trademark application for registration will be reduced to 12 months step by step.
