Cases infringing foreign-related trademarks investigated into and handled by AICs have increased substantially in the third quarter

As reported, in the third quarter of 2008, Administrations for Industry and Commerce (AIC) at
all levels nationwide investigated into and handled 3,162 cases of infringing foreign-related
trademarks, increased by 574 cases or 22.18% compared to the same period of last year. Its
share shows a steady growth in law-breaking trademark cases, increased from 21.06% in the
same period of last year to 21.92%, up 0.86 percentage points.
Among law-breaking cases concerning foreign-related trademarks investigated into and
handled by AICs, trademark infringement and counterfeiting cases occupy the dominant
position. In the third quarter of 2008, a total of 3,133 cases of counterfeiting foreign-related
trademarks were investigated into and handled, increased by 566 cases or 22.05%
compared to the same period of last year, accounting for 99.08%. 29 cases of general
trademark offense were investigated into and handled, accounting for 0.92%.
